DiSCOVERY Project Of The Week - Crabs In A Bucket

North-West London born rapper 'Nines' is credited with this weeks DiSCOVERY 'Project Of The Week' title after he successfully pincered his way out of the pool of potential victors. We reeled Nines' latest, ten of an album - 'Crabs In A Bucket' to the top of our project food chain after being blown away by every morsel of this flavour heavy album; everything from artwork, to vocals is 'Michelin Star' quality. Quality that should be devoured by all.

'Crabs In A Bucket' was released on the 28th of August 2020, into a sea of hungry fans who were somewhat salty after Nines' lack of project activity since early 2018, when 'Crop Circles' was produced. Luckily for languished listeners 'Crabs In A Bucket' is nothing short of out-of-this-universe; it is as if Nines was beamed up by a UFO, brainwashed into a state of musical meditation, and let free when the 'Crabs In A Bucket' masterpiece was complete.

Consisting of 17 tracks, 'Crabs In A Bucket' is as extensive as it is excellent. What is most impressive about the length of 'Crabs In A Bucket' is the fact quality is not compromised for a second; every song in that project pail is immense. Having 17 segments to devote lyrics to does of course open the door to diversity, a door which Nines kicks down. 'Crabs In A Bucket' is swimming with an infectious variety of energy.

Nines blesses listeners with scene-setting, background-revealing, and at times heart-wrenching tracks such as 'Intro', and 'Outro'. The ability to portray these penetrating feelings with such conviction, to then have fans vibing to songs like 'Airplane Mode' (Ft NSG), and 'Ringaling' (ft Headie One & Odeal) is not to be overlooked. When this already varied amalgamation is mixed with the greazy greatness on 'Energy' (Ft Skrapz), and 'All Stars 2' (Ft Clavish, Frosty, Q2T & Chappo CSB), fans have no choice other than to sit back an embrace art in its purest form.

As mentioned at the very beginning of this article, what is most mind-blowing about 'Crabs In A Bucket' is everything - the whole body of work; this includes promotion, album artwork, production, marketing, vocals, word-play, features, etc. An element of the promotion / marketing / artistry that we wanted to pay homage to is 'Crabs In A Bucket - A Film By Nines'. This 27 minute stroke of miracle work premiered the day before the album release. It features song-snippets, and fan - artist relationship building scenes. We strongly believe that this short-film is a substantial part of the albums initial success. (Click here to watch)

Track Of The Project - 'Intro'

With 12 out of 17 tracks receiving full DiSCOVERY marks, we once again relied on our gut, and some relatively rational thinking to allocate our 'Track Of The Project'.

As you can see, we chose 'Intro'. There are a host of reasons for this, but mainly because the song does exactly what it is commissioned to do - introduces the album. This said, rather than just introducing the album, 'Intro' sets the tone for what is an upper echelon body of work from the get go, sends shivers down our spine with Nines' personal, piercing pain, and humbles us with admirable levels of honesty.

This is our opinion, and on another day, we could've easily chosen another track. What's your favourite song on 'Crabs In A Bucket'? Comment below, or of course on any of our social media platforms.

As always, thanks for reading, and if you have enjoyed this particular article, please leave a like below, and share it with a friend. Also, we strongly believe that Nines himself would enjoy this, if he read it. So, if you can tag him on our Instagram, we would appreciate it massively!
