As another DiSCOVERY week nears completion, north-London based lyricist 'Kiico' guns down competition to become invincible, and as a result, grasps a golden, 'Video Of The Week' trophy. Kiico's 24 karat gold cup is engraved with the name of his title winning short film - 'RealSpill 1.0', which is a heart-wrenching visual masterpiece.
The 'RealSpill 1.0' video is very much like a transparent time-lapse of Kiico's 20 years of living, expertly enclosed into 4 minutes, and 15 seconds. Kiico cruises this seemingly impossible mission through the use of his utterly spectacular storytelling ability.
Many avid rap fans will be familiar with Kiico's name, and perhaps content, as a result of the rapper's broadcasted journey on 'The Rap Game UK' - BBC Three television programme. 'The Rap Game UK' is headed up by rap-royalty 'Krept & Konan', and 'DJ Target'. Kiico traveled the treacherous road to the final, and was crowned the undisputed king.
Kiico's throughly convincing 'The Rap Game UK' victory resulted in the once-in-a-lifetime reward of a 'Play Dirty' record deal. Although it is impossible to delve into the craniums of Krept & Konan, with a view of analysing the Kiico conclusion thought process, there are identical sibling-like similarities between Krept & Konan, and Kiico which likely influenced the choice.
These similarities are much deeper than merely musically; Kiico's upbringing mirrors Krept & Konan's, and reflections of this are vivid in 'RealSpill 1.0'. Kiico utilises the initial minute of 'RealSpill 1.0' to portray the depressingly familiar story of potentially catastrophic conflict with opposing youths.
The remainder of 'RealSpill 1.0' is dedicated to a deep sea dive into Kiico's upbringing, or lack of it, with his father and grandfather going to prison at a young age. Unthinkably, scenarios such a Kiico's are not unheard of, however, the outcome of Kiico harnessing the pain of his no-role-model childhood into mammoth motivation to be his little brothers rock is a rarity, and truly inspirational.
Ironically, some of the most stunning rap spectacles are born as a result of traumatic life experiences. This is absolutely the case for 'RealSpill 1.0', and it is another element that brings Kiico even closer to his two, legendary mentors - Krept & Konan.
The immense, penetrating pain used to construct 'RealSpill 1.0' reminds us of some of Krept & Konan's most emotional songs, such as 'Devils Playground', and 'My Story'. It seems that Kiico is also going to tread the same, admirable path as Krept & Konan, after the realisation that "there's way more to life than the hood". For this reason alone, we are proud to present the DiSCOVERY 'Video Of The Week' award to one of the UK's hottest musical prospects.
Whilst we strongly recommend that you watch the 'RealSpill 1.0' visuals in order to generate your own verdict, we also suggest that you view Krept & Konan's 'Devils Playground' directly after.
